UV sterilization
One of the disinfection methods for viruses, bacteria and germs is the sanitation through UV rays. UV rays are divided into 3 categories, UVA UVB and UVC, where UVCs are the ones that can kill viruses, however special care is required because of their harmfulness to human body.
UVC rays are characterized by a small wavelength (100 – 280nm) and according to ASHRAE, the ideal wavelength for disinfection is 265nm
The use of UVCs is applied through the following methods:
1. Air sterilization
To prevent the transmission of viruses and germs through airborne particles and especially through HVAC systems, suitable UV product applications should be used or installed to each system
Equipment
- Installing UV devices to Air Handling Units (AHU)
- Installing UV devices to existing air ducts
- Installing local air sterilizers with UV
2. Surface sterilization
Surface sterilization is achieved with appropriate equipment by illuminating the respective surfaces. However, UV lighting should not come into contact with the human body

- Portable and manual equipment for disinfection
- Portable and automatic equipment (UV robots) with automatic movement and scanning of all surfaces of the space
- Installed UV equipment for scheduled operation in the absence of staff
3. Water sterilization
Water sterilization using UV rays is used for drinking water or swimming pool water

- Installed equipment for recirculation by UV products
